The Mavericks OS X release date should be October 22, 2013 now that Fall Apple Event has been confirmed for that date. Since Apple launched its new iOS 7 mobile operating system, Apple users have also been awaiting the release of the new Mavericks OS X, along with the new Macbook Pro 2013.
Apple's new Mac operating system was first introduced at Apple's WWDC event earlier this year in June. Since then, eight Developer Previews of OS X Mavericks have been released to developers, which has given in-depth insight into the new operating system.
The Oct. 22 date for the Apple Event has been confirmed but a stream of tech. websites. AllThingsD reported that "People familiar with Apple's plans" have told them that the California-based company "will hold its next invitation-only event on Tuesday October 22."
The eighth Developer Preview of OS X Mavericks was only seeded last month, just a few weeks after the release of the seventh Developer Preview. It is currently available to download for registered developers via the Mac App Store.
The new OS X boasts numerous new features including a new Maps app, a tabbed finder, iBooks, new look to the calendar, improved Safari, iCloud Keychain, multiple displays among numerous other features.
In 2012, the previous operating system, Mountain Lion OS X, released on July 25, 2012 for $19.99. The previous year, Apple charged $29.99 to upgrade to OS X Lion. Although the iOS 7 upgrade was offered free for iDevice users this year, it is likely that Apple will charge at least a nominal fee for the OS X upgrade as in previous years.
However, with Windows offering existing Windows 8 users a free upgrade to Windows 8.1 this year, some are now touting that Apple may surprise customers by offering a free upgrade to the new Mavericks OS X. Others though, believe they know Apple better and that they will definitely charge something – likely the same as 2012 at $19.99, or at the very least $9.99 to cover some of their costs.
The new operating system is rumored to be released with the upgraded version of Macbook Pros, Macbook Pro with Retina Display, and iMacs – all of which are due to be upgraded.
Apple will also launch the fifth-generation iPad and iPad Mini 2.
