Mayhem Festival 2012 Lineup to Feature Christian Band
The world's largest heavy metal tour has announced its new line up, which will feature Slipknot, Slayer, and also include the Christian band As I Lay Dying.
The festival, which is being sponsored this year by Rockstar Energy Drink, will display feature bands on the main stage, with a third mystery band to be announced March 5. Anthrax will take over the second stage, and As I Lay Dying, The Devil Wears Prada, and Asking Alexandria will all serve as supporting bands.
Corey Taylor of Slipknot commented on the bands silent period, having not released an album since 2008."You knew we'd be back. Now, you know we're coming. This will be a tour people will scarcely want to miss. It will definitely be a show to remember. Can't wait to see the states again from behind a mask."
The Devil Wears Prada, an up and coming metal band that has been reported to have great on stage energy has recently released a new album titled "Dead Throne." Mike Hranica, lead vocalist, said that a lot of the themes in the album hit on hero worship and lost love. The group is currently headlining a tour in the United Kingdom.
As I Lay Dying, another supporting band, has frequently promoted themselves as a Christian band. The band has been rebuked several times however, many not associating the band's heavy metal tone with Christian themes.
On their website, when questioned about their Christian views, one band mate tried to respond to a question about whether they were a Christian band or a band made of Christian members. "I'm not sure what the difference is between five Christians playing in a band and a Christian band. If you truly believe something, then it should affect every area of your life," the band posted on their website.
"All five of us are Christians. I believe that change should start with me first, and as a result, our lyrics do not come across very 'preachy.' Many of our songs are about life, struggles, mistakes, relationships and other issues that don't fit entirely in the spiritual category. However, all of these topics are written about through my perspective as a Christian."
This is the fifth year of the summer festival, which will last over a span of 5 weeks and include 26 tour dates. Pre-sale tickets will be available April 5.
