Kim Kardashian, Kanye West Asked to Be Jerusalem Ambassadors After Daughter's Baptism
Kim Kardashian West and her rap mogul husband Kanye West, were asked to be ambassadors of Jerusalem while visiting the city to get their daughter North West baptized Monday.
The 22-month-old toddler traveled to Armenia with her parents for five days before reaching Jerusalem, where she was baptized in the Cathedral of Saint James in the Armenian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem, according to The Jerusalem Post.
The celebrity couple also reportedly met with the mayor of Jerusalem, Mayor Nir Barkat. Aside from toasting to Jerusalem, Barkat spoke to The Jerusalem Post about asking the Wests "to be ambassadors of Jerusalem and to spread the message around the world that Jerusalem is open and everyone is wanted here."
The church where North was baptized is the principal church of the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem, according to the The Jerusalem Post. While in attendance, the publication described the famous parents' attire, which included Kanye wearing white and Kim dressed in a long peach and beige frock and North a beige outfit.
Khloé Kardashian, the youngest Kardashian sister, was on hand as North's godmother and dressed in black. Sources close to the situation reportedly spoke about the family's dream to visit Jerusalem.
"They flew [into Jerusalem] especially for [the baptism]," a close family source told PEOPLE. "They knew it was close to Armenia and it was always a dream to come to Jerusalem. There's an Armenian quarter, and they did it at this old beautiful church. It was epic. So beautiful."
The family was expected to leave for Jordan on Tuesday, according to TMZ reports.
Archbishop Aris Shirvanian, an Armenian church official, spoke about the family's celebrity status, which resulted in numerous cameras following them as they prepared for North's baptism ceremony.
"Kim Kardashian's daughter will be baptized and become a Christian officially and a member of the Armenian church," Shirvanian told The Associated Press before the baptism took place. "All I know is that she's a famous personality. I don't know her in person. In any case she is welcome with her family."
