McCreery, Alaina Talk Music, Faith With Rolling Stone
Season 10 “American Idol” winner Scotty McCreery, 17, and runner up Lauren Alaina, 16, sat down recently at the Rolling Stone studio and answered questions on video from fans submitted via Twitter and Facebook.
Both stayed true to who they are as Christians, speaking about their faith in an environment that probably isn’t all that common.
The first question Alaina received was, “How did you stay true to your religion and faith through all the craziness of the show?”
“I was raised really religious, and it’s a big part of my life,” said Alaina, a Rossville, Ga. native. “No matter what I go through, my faith will always be there.”
Fans asked them about their ideal guy or girl. Their answers caused some to speculate they might be talking about each other.
“He has to be taller than me, have nice muscles, love Jesus, and athletic ... and blue eyes,” Alaina said.
“One, I’d like her to be a Christian,” said McCreery, a Southern Baptist from Garner, N.C. “Two, musically or athletically inclined, in some way or another. If not, it’s okay, but it’d be a preference. Three, just a cool, down to earth person. Not too glamorous. If she wears sweat pants and a t-shirt, that’s fine with me.”
Both plan to release country albums. McCreery says he won’t try to change his older style voice to be more commercially viable. He said it got him this far and he thinks it can be appreciated with the newer sound of today. Alaina, whose voice also lends itself to pop music, said if her album crosses over, that would be terrific.
Fans asked them to say something about each other.
“I think Scotty is a really good guy,” Alaina said. “He loves Jesus and he’s super talented and I’m so happy for him.”
“She’s a character,” McCreery said. “She’s one of a kind. There’s nobody else out there like her. I can promise you that.”
