Mega Millions Tuesday night did not draw a lucky winner, further fattening the jackpot prize to $508 million.
The Mega Millions drawn numbers for July 5, 2016 are 29-64-46-53-73, the Megaball: 10 and Megaplier 5x. Tuesday night is the 34th time that the Mega Millions drawing did not have a successful winner. The next drawing will be on Friday, 11 PM ET. The jackpot prize of $508 million is in the top 10 of the largest prize pool in the US.
Mega Millions Jackpot Prize
Paula Otto of the Mega Millions organization said Tuesday night that if the drawing had a winner, the previous estimated $454 million jackpot prize would have been the 7th largest one that anyone could win in a US lottery. According to CBS News, the highest jackpot prize money was $1.6 billion and was won by numerous Powerball players in three states in January.
Tuesday Mega Millions drawing trumped the previous record of 22 rolls without having a jackpot prize winner.
How to Win Mega Millions
Mega Millions is played by millions of people in the 44 states in America. CNN noted that individual players have a 1 in 259 million chance of scoring the jackpot. They must get all correct white ball numbers and the mega ball. As for Powerball, the chance of getting the top jackpot is higher at 1 in 292 million.
How to Claim Prize
For those who were lucky enough to win the prize, the claim period is valid from 180 days to a full year of purchasing the tickets. According to the Mega Millions website, the prize money is taxable. For payouts, winners can choose between an Annual Payout or a Cash Option.
Annual Payout
Payment is done annually meaning the first payment will be followed by 29 more annual payments. The subsequent payments after the initial one will be 5 percent larger.
Cash Option
Winners receive the whole bulk of their winnings in one big payment.
However, prize win claims are different from state to state so winners must check with their state's local Mega Millions branch. Those who would like to claim their prizes anmeonymously may do so but it still varies as there are other states that require them to publicly announce the names of the winners.
