Meghan McCain, the MSNBC contributor and daughter of Sen. John McCain, ripped into the Republican presidential candidate's wife Tuesday, making comments regarding her personality as well as being involved with the ex-House Speaker while he was still married to his second wife. McCain said the couple's reputation could hinder Gingrich's chances of winning the GOP nomination.

"I think the fact that she was a third wife and a mistress and is coming off somewhat icy and her reputation of being somewhat controversial within their campaign is doing damage," McCain said during a discussion on MSNBC.

Former Republican National Chairman Michael Steele came to Gingrich's defense, insisting Americans may relate to Gingrich.

"People want to know what your life is like and what you're going through…There are people out there who have been married more than twice, more than three times," Steele said according to the New York Daily News.
