Melania Trump Comes Under Fire After Delivering Anti-Bullying Speech

Melania Trump recently came under fire after delivering an anti-bullying speech during the U.N. General Assembly, where she was supposed to present her agenda and plans as the First Lady in the coming years to the spouses of the different world leaders. However, soon after the event, the Twitterverse started to erupt as people began criticizing her for her ironic speech.

Initially, Trump was criticized online for her lavish choice of outfit for the event—a pink dress that reportedly cost $3,000. However, social media's attention eventually focused on the content of the speech itself, which the Twitterverse found to be a little tongue-in-cheek.

Speaking out about anti-bullying, the First Lady said: "It remains our generation's moral imperative to take responsibility for what our children learn. We must turn our focus right now to the message and content they are exposed to on a daily basis—social media, the bullying."

Trump also stressed in her speech that parents should instill in their children the values of empathy and communication, saying these are "at the core of kindness, mindfulness, integrity and leadership which can only be taught by example."

"By our own example we must teach children to be good stewards of the world they will inherit," she added.

However, that particular part of her speech raised eyebrows, with some people claiming that her husband, U.S. President Donald Trump, should first apply that piece of advice to himself.

"Melania Trump's United Nations speech preached about setting an example for our children and preventing bullying... Start with your husband," said one Twitter user.

The Twitterverse was quick to point out that the First Lady's message was totally biting, considering that her husband was known for using social media to attack his critics. Some people also said it was ironic of her to speak about the value of kindness and humility while wearing an over-the-top dress.
