"My beautiful child Dakota has been chosen to play Anna Steele in 50 Shades," the 56-year-old actress posted. "Look out world! Here she comes! #proudmama"

Furthermore, during Monday's casting reveal, E L James revealed that 33-year-old actor Charlie Hunnam would portray Christian Grey.

Despite Griffith's excitement over her 23-year-old daughter's role, some "50 Shades of Grey" readers were disappointed. Many took to Twitter complaining that Johnson and Hunnam are relatively obscure actors- Johnson was in a short-lived television series "Ben and Kate," while Hunnam stars on FX's "Sons of Anarchy."

Defending the film's cast, one of the film's producers Dana Brunetti took aim at those "hating."

"There is a lot that goes into casting that isn't just looks," explained Brunetti via Twitter. "Talent, availability, their desire to do it, chemistry with the other actor, etc. So if your favorite wasn't cast, then it is most likely due to something on that list. Keep that in mind while hating and keep perspective."

"50 Shades of Grey" the movie is expected for release in Aug. 14. Sam Taylor-Johnson has been hired as director for the 50 Shades of Grey film, and Kelly Marcel will create a script.

News of the cast selections arrives after years of speculation over who would star in the coveted roles of the film.
James candidly revealed the news via Twitter, writing: "I am delighted to let you know that the lovely Dakota Johnson has agreed to be our Anastasia in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey."

Soon after that announcement hit the Internet, it was also announced that Charlie Hunnam would be joining opposite Johnson in the lead male role.

"The gorgeous and talented Charlie Hunnam will be Christian Grey in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey," James added.
