Melissa Gorga $3.8 Million Mansion Sold: 'I'm Excited' Says 'Housewives' Star
"Real Housewives of New Jersey" stars Melissa and Joe Gorga reportedly sold their Montville Township, New Jersey home despite salvaging their relationships with co-star Teresa Giudice.
During the season four reunion show Melissa, who is Teresa's sister-in-law, revealed that she and her husband of eight-years were selling their beloved "dream" home to protect her children from a family feud. In recent episodes from season five viewers saw the Gorgas and Teresa and Joe Giudice finally put an end to their recurring drama however Melissa and Joe proceeded with the sale and allegedly raked in the asking price of $3.8 million.
"I feel like this was meant to be. It happened just in time for the kids to start their first of day of school," Melissa told Us magazine. "It's going to be a lot of work designing and building the new home, but Joe is an incredible builder and I'm excited to go back to where we started our family."
Joe, who is a property developer, revealed that he will build a new lavish home for his family during the fall after purchasing land in the Franklin Lakes area.
"This is what I love to do. I can't wait to begin building another dream home for my family," Joe said.
In 2012 reports claimed Melissa and Joe, who joined the hit Bravo reality TV show in season three, were forced to list their home due to alleged financial woes. Prior to living in their lavish mansion the couple reportedly lived in a more modest 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom home said to be worth around $500,000.
"Melissa and Joe are in way over their heads. Joe owes a lot of people money. They have the house on the market because they can't pay the mortgage now that the interest rate on it has exploded," a source close to the couple previously told Radar Online.
"They are portraying a life they that they really didn't live prior to the show. Melissa likes to drop name brands now and has become very arrogant. Joe loves the fact that Joe Giudice has financial issues, yet he's in the same boat!" the source added.
After being cast on the "Real Housewives" reality show, the couple reportedly upgraded and moved into their lavish home.
"Joe built the house as a spec home, hoping to find a buyer. As a builder, he got an interest free loan for a period of time in which he was to sell the house," the source said.
"When his wife was hired for RHONJ, the Gorgas decided to abandon their home and move in to give themselves an appearance of wealth that they don't really have," the insider added. "Now, the interest-free period on the loan has expired, so they have to move."
Melissa, 35, previously denied reports of money trouble and attributed the listing of her home to drama with Teresa, 40.
"I don't want my kids going to school with her [Teresa's] kids," Melissa told Andy Cohen about why she decided to move.
One month after listing their family home, the Gorgas also put their $520,000 Toms River summer vacation home up for sale.
