Memphis Grizzlies injury rumors: point guard Mike Conley likely out for the season
The Memphis Grizzlies are in a very unique situation right now. With a few games remaining in the NBA regular season, they currently hold the fifth spot in the Western Conference; but it looks like it really doesn't matter right now especially after fears that starting point guard Mike Conley may be done for the year due to a left Achilles tendinitis.
Although the team is almost assured of a playoff berth, they most likely won't get out of the first round since majority of the roster are on the injured list. With starting center Marc Gasol and Mario Chalmers already done for the season, the loss of Conley should serve as the nail on the coffin for the Grizzlies' season. Per Oregon Live, the team is currently facing a six-game losing streak. If they lose all their remaining games, there even is a chance that they will fall down to ninth place and out of the postseason.
Conley has not played in the last 15 games for the team, but management thought he had enough time to rest and be ready for the playoffs. However, after team doctors made a re-evaluation of his injury, they suggested that the best way to go is to sit out the remaining games of the season and the postseason. And to prove how importantly the point guard is to the team, they only managed to win two of their last 10 games.
There still is a possibility that he'll recover in time for the first round, but the real question is, will Memphis force him to play and risk aggravating the injury? Conley is one of the cornerstones of the franchise, but he'll become a free agent at the end of the season. At this point, it's just a confusing and disappointing season for the Grizzlies. Though Conley has played all his career in Memphis, there is no certainty if he'll continue doing so next season.
