Memphis Grizzlies Sign Forward JaMychal Green to a Two-Year Deal

Forward JaMychal Green has finally ended his contract standoff with the Memphis Grizzlies.

According to Shams Charania of The Vertical, Green has agreed to sign a two-year deal worth around $17 million to stay in Memphis.

The Grizzlies have been trying to sign him since the start of free agency in July. As a restricted free agent, the sixth-year pro from Alabama would have had to accept a one-year, $2.8 million qualifying offer if he could not come to terms with the team by Oct. 1.

Green did not take part in the team's annual media day on Monday and he missed the start of training camp. The forward obviously didn't get the deal he wanted, but he's happy to play for the Grizzlies for two more seasons.

"I always wanted to stay here. It's a lot convenient for me. I love Memphis. Just the city, the fans and Coach Fiz. I always just wanted to stay here and play with him," Green said, via WMC Action News 5.

"My situation didn't play out the way I wanted. I definitely ended up satisfied with where I ended, but I just want to come out there and prove that I belong and that I'm worth whatever I think I'm worth," he added.

With Zach Randolph no longer with the Grizzlies, Green should get the lion's share of minutes at the power forward position next season. In 77 games (75 starts) last season, the six-foot-nine forward averaged 8.9 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 27.3 minutes per game. He also shot 50 percent from the field and 38.2 percent from beyond the three-point line.

Green has always been a hard-nosed player, but he has improved his touch from behind the arc in the past couple of seasons and he is now a legitimate three-point threat.
