Meryl Streep Lands First 'Vogue' Cover
Meryl Streep, multiple award-winning actress, has appeared on the new cover of “Vogue” magazine.
This is the first appearance for Streep, who got her start in acting in 1977. Since then, she has been nominated 16 times for an Academy Award, the most for any woman, and has won twice. Earlier this month she received Kennedy Center Honors for her work.
In 2008 Streep played a nun in the movie “Doubt,” which dealt with the topic of abuse and the Catholic Church. She received an Academy Award nomination for her portrayal of “Sister Alosysius.”
Her latest movie, “The Iron Lady” is a biopic of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. There is already talk of Streep being nominated for an Oscar even though the movie is not being released until next month.
She has over 69 credits to her name and experiences ranging from providing voices in movies as well as appearing in the title role. Streep also has theater and singing experience. She sang in 2008’s “Mamma Mia!” and was nominated for a Grammy Award.
Streep caused a stir in 2008 when she gave an interview to London’s “Daily Telegraph” in which she explained her religious views. “I’ve always been really, deeply interested in faith, because I think I can understand the solace that’s available in the whole construct of religion.”
However, she skeptically added: “I really don’t believe in the power of prayer…I have a belief, I guess, in the power of the aggregate human attempt.”
While some consider Streep to be an atheist, she was raised Presbyterian. Her family has Jewish roots, but Streep has said, “I follow no doctrine. I don’t belong to a church or a temple or a synagogue or an ashram.”
