Meryl Streep to Play Hillary Clinton in Tribute? (VIDEO)

Actress Meryl Streep paid a heartfelt, passionate, and at times comedic tribute to U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton this past weekend at the Women in the World 2012 summit. The touching introduction has left many speculating if the Oscar-winning actress might consider paying another tribute to Clinton, but this time on the silver screen.

"We women really do look very hard at each other," Streep said as she began her introduction for Clinton at the summit. "We can be hard on each other but we really look so deeply because we want inspiration."

"I think everyone should know this hidden history Hillary has. The story of her parallel agenda; the shadow diplomacy unheralded, uncelebrated, careful, constant work on behalf of women and girls that she has always conducted alongside everything else a first lady, a senator, and now a secretary of state is obliged to do," Streep said.

The touching introduction for Clinton at the summit had many wondering if the actress who just won an Oscar for her role as Margaret Thatcher in "The Iron Lady," should portray Clinton in a film.

Clinton has been a true pioneer and champion for the rights of women and girls globally since she publically spoke at a 1995 conference in Beijing declaring "women's rights are human rights." The profound and courageous statement continues to be widely used in policy and development circles around the world.

"She has turned out to be the voice of her generation. I'm an actress and she's the real deal." Streep told the audience. "This isn't just symbolism. It's how you change the world."

The Women in the World summit was a three-day event that took place this past weekend following International Women's Day. The summit is organized by Tina Brown of Newsweek and The Daily Beast, and brought together dozens of women who have decided their lives to making a difference for women and girls globally.
