Miami Dolphins Trade Rumors: Zach Brown Will Choose Between Dolphins and Raiders
Zach Brown is probably the best linebacker available on the open market right now and it looks like he's taking his time to decide where he wants to play next season.
According to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, Brown has narrowed his options down to either the Miami Dolphins or the Oakland Raiders. Brown's close friend and former teammate at the University of North Carolina Jamal Womble also said the Buffalo Bills may no longer be an option for the linebacker.
He will be a good addition for the Dolphins. However, there is one caveat. Brown's asking price is believed to be at around six million dollars a year and the Dolphins are hesitant to give him that much money. That may not seem like much, but they don't really have much cap space left.
"The Dolphins, who have $16 million left in cap space, have only offered Brown, who has visited Oakland and Buffalo this offseason, a one-year deal, according to sources," Omar Kelly of the Sun Sentinel said in his report.
Kelly also said Brown wasn't in a hurry to sign with anyone and he could even end up waiting until after the draft. "The offers might improve once a linebacker-starved team fails to land one in the draft or after an injury takes place during organized team activities or training camp," he continued.
Of course, that's a little risky. What if the Dolphins and Raiders end up selecting a linebacker they really like in the draft? Will they still go after Brown?
Meanwhile, CBS Miami has reported that the Dolphins are willing to give him three to four million dollars a year, and NFL Spin Zone's Mark Morales-Smith has noted that the Dolphins should try to get him to accept a deal that will pay him $4.6 to $4.9 million annually. "This is an asset the team desperately needs and, at just 27 years old, he could be a staple alongside Alonso and a drafted rookie for years to come," he said in his report.
Brown should start alongside Lawrence Timmons and Kiko Alonso if he decides to sign with the Dolphins.
