The San Diego Chargers and the Miami Dolphins are two teams who have nothing to lose in tomorrow's game, with both having no postseason hopes after suffering defeats in Week 14. Of course, there's always pride at stake even for these two lowly teams.
The Chargers (3-10) are looking to take revenge against the Dolphins that shut them out, 37-0, season. That loss last year eventually became the most embarrassing and lopsided for them in almost two decades. Also, this game is likely going to be the last one for the Chargers in San Diego because the team is contemplating on moving to Los Angeles next year.
Chargers fans didn't really have a good reason to be optimistic this season, which by the way has become quite awful for the franchise. But it looks like they've been used to losing already, having missed the postseason for the fifth time. They also haven't been good at home, losing five consecutive games.
The team ranks dead last in the league in the running game and they rank 31st in yards per game.
The Dolphins, on the other hand, are as awful this season. The team hasn't reached the postseason for the seventh straight year. They could have given themselves a chance last Monday, but they lost to the Giants, 31-24.
Although this game isn't about reaching the playoffs anymore, there in fact is a lot at stake for the players and coaching staff. Any ownership of a major sports franchise will have to contemplate on a shakeup when the team looks to be building a culture of losing. But winning this game may at least ease some pressure from team ownership. Winning their remaining games might be reason enough to keep the roster intact for next season.
