Miami Heat NBA Trade and Roster Rumors: Dwyane Wade May Have to Accept Bench Role If He Rejoins the Heat
It appears that Dwyane Wade may have to accept a bench role if he wants to return to Miami because they are likely going to keep Dion Waiters in the starting lineup next season even if he rejoins the team.
According to the Miami Herald's Barry Jackson, the Heat have expressed interest in bringing back Wade, but they are only willing to do so if he's willing to come off the bench and play for the team's $4.3 million cap exception.
Well, if that's the case, the Cleveland Cavaliers may now have the edge in signing him once the Chicago Bulls buy out his contract because they are reportedly willing to start him and relegate J.R. Smith to the bench.
Wade has told NBA TV's David Aldridge that he has yet to discuss a buyout with the Bulls, but it's going to happen sooner or later. He also revealed that he wants to play for a title contender before he calls it a career.
"First of all, obviously, everyone wants to compete. It's no secret. We would all love to compete for a championship at the end of my career. That is one thing I would love to do. I'm not in a position right now to do that, so I can't talk about what that preference is. Hopefully, one day before I'm done playing this game, I can be back in position to compete for a championship," Wade said, according to the Miami Herald.
Based on his statement, it seems that the Cavaliers are the favorites to sign him because they can compete for a title this season. Still, reports have indicated that Wade would welcome a chance to return to Miami, so a potential reunion remains possible.
The Heat actually have a lot of depth at the guard positions, but Wade's veteran leadership is always welcome.
