Michael Jackson Birthday: Family and Fans Remember King of Pop
Today is the late pop star Michael Jackson’s 53rd birthday. Less than three years ago, the singer’s sudden death rocked the entire nation. The musical legend will be remembered for his countless iconic performances, eccentric style and personal struggles.
Sunday night marked MTV's 28th Video Music Awards, and while Jackson was not present his influence in today’s music and choreography could not be ignored.
In 1988, the late singer made his first performance at the VMAs with the song “Bad.” In 2002, the VMAs were hosted on Jackson’s birth date and in 2009, as a tribute to the King of Pop, musicians and celebrities paid homage to Jackson’s legacy.

This year, to commemorate the occasion, Jackson’s children and parents visited his childhood home in Gary, Indiana. Jackson left behind three children: Prince, 14, Paris, 13 and nine-year-old Blanket after his death in 2009.
Hundreds of fans celebrated outside the late singer’s old house over the weekend. Since Jackson’s death, fans have gathered at the home to remember him. During the activities, Paris Jackson told a local television station that she “enjoyed her father’s fans.”
It is unknown whether Jackson’s siblings were in attendance, but his sister, LaToya Jackson, took to Twitter to wish her brother a Happy Birthday.
She tweeted, “Happy Birthday Michael! I miss you and we will always love you! You’ve given such an extraordinary gift to the world! We cherish it!”
Fans of the singer also used Twitter as a way to celebrate Jackson’s 53rd birthday.
One fan tweeted, ‘“Love transcends international boundaries. It heals the wounds of racial hatred, prejudice, bigotry and ignorance,’ Happy Birthday MJ”
Another fan wrote, “Everywhere I go. Every smile I see. I know you are there, smilin’ back at me. Happy Birthday MJ HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE KING.”
Just last week, a Los Angeles judge ruled against sequestering the jurors during the six-week trial against Dr. Conrad Murray. Murray is charged with involuntary manslaughter for allegedly administering a fatal dose of anesthetic and other sedatives to Jackson and failing to properly monitor the singer. If convicted, Murray faces up to four years in prison.
