Michael Landon's Highway To Heaven Coming To DVD
The complete first season of the popular 1980’s television series Highway To Heaven will be released to DVD on April 26th. Distributed by A & E Home Video, the long-awaited seven disc set features all 24 episodes, including the two-part pilot, in addition to seldom-seen outtakes and the documentary tribute, Michael Landon: Memories with Laughter and Love. Retail price is listed at $79.99.
The series, which ran for 5 seasons on NBC, totaling 111 hour-long episodes from 1984-1989, starred Michael Landon, who also wrote and directed many episodes, as the novice guardian angel “Jonathan Smith,” whose task is to bring the message of God’s love to discouraged souls. Adding to Landon’s splendid performance in the series, Highway to Heaven: Season One features guest appearances by an array of high-profile actors, including the legendary Helen Hayes (A Farewell to Arms), sitcom and big-screen star Helen Hunt (Mad About You, Cast Away) and acclaimed actor Ned Beatty (Homicide: Life on the Street). Today, Highway To Heaven can be seen on the TV Land network, airing weeknights at 8:00 pm ET.
In related news, Paramount has now offiicially announced that the Complete Second Season of The Andy Griffith Show will be released on DVD May 24, 2005. The list price will probably be about the same as for the Complete First Season (around $40). There are expected to be some special features with the new release, possibly including some of the original sponsor commercials featuring the cast members. Paramount has also announced that it plans to release the Complete Third Season this fall and the Complete Fourth Season before the end of the year. Tentative dates for those releases are likely to be announced before Memorial Day.
