Michael Phelps' Baby Name, Photo Shared Via Social Media: Meet Boomer Robert Phelps [Picture]
Olympic gold medalist and swimmer Michael Phelps welcomed a baby boy with his fiancée Nicole Johnson last Thursday. And to commemorate this important moment in their lives, Phelps posted a photo of him holding his newborn baby, Boomer, while his fiancée Nicole is seen in the background. Through Instagram, Phelps shared the photo saying that it was "the best feeling" he has ever felt in his life.
The photo's full caption also indicated the baby's full name which is Boomer Robert Phelps and that he was born last May 5, 2016. The swimmer was apparently very happy that his baby boy and his fiancée were both "healthy."
Michael Phelps Looking forward to Rio 2016
Phelps and Johnson are set to tie the knot after the summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in August, where Phelps will once again compete as part of the U.S. swim team. This Olympics, according to a report in BT.com, is the fifth one where he will compete. The swimmer had earlier retired from his sport in 2012, right after the London Olympics. In 2014 however, he announced that he was coming out of retirement, followed by his joining local competitions and the U.S. National Championship in swimming in 2015. His return to the sport has been mired in controversy after he was arrested for drunk driving in September 2014, resulting in his suspension from USA Swimming for several months. Earlier this year, Phelps confirmed he would be competing to make the US Swimming team going to Rio.
The couple announced back in November that they were expecting their first child, also through an Instagram post. Phelps, who was dealing with an alcohol abuse issue right before he came out of retirement, shared that his relationship with Johnson helped him get through his problems. He had previously told the Today show that it had reached the point where he "didn't want to see another day" as it was already affecting his family.
Phelps and Johnson were already a couple in 2007 but in 2011, they decided to take a break. In 2014, right at the time that Phelps was dealing with his alcohol abuse issues while trying to come back to his sport, the couple reunited, according to a Pop Sugar report.
