Michael Vick Receives $100 Million 6-Year Contract
After a rough return to the NFL following an 18 month prison stint, Michael Vick is once again being named one of the highest paid players in the NFL.
Vick, Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback, proved his worth by working his way into the starting position last season and led his team to the NFC East title. Since then, the Eagles proclaimed that the QB would be their franchise player.
The Eagles matched their verbal backing with a six-year contract worth $100 million on Monday, where the player will be guaranteed $40 million. Andy Reid, Eagles’ coach, said Vick deserved long term backing from the team.

"I'm very happy we were able to reach an agreement with Michael on this long-term contract," Reid said, according to NFL. "It's a product of all the hard work Michael has done to better himself over the last couple of years, both on and off the field."
Aside from his efforts as a team player, Vick was the starting quarterback in the Pro Bowl and chosen as the Associated Press’ NFL Comeback Player of the Year. When he returned for the 2009 NFL season as a Philadelphia Eagle, Vick was a third-string QB, waiting behind Donovan McNabb and Kevin Kolb.
After Kolb was injured in an early game of the season, Vick proved that he deserved to be a starter. Reid said he believed Vick would maintain his performance.
"There's no doubt in my mind that he will continue on that path," the Eagles’ coach said according to NFL networks.
After news surfaced that Vick was a $100 million man, mixed reactions appeared on Twitter.
One Twitter used “Darrellpatrick” was inspired by Vick.
“Michael Vick is proof that you can't keep a good man down especially if he wants to get up,” darrellpatrick tweeted.
However others were unhappy with the Eagles’ decision.
“Michael Vick gets a 9 figure contract,” taraluisi questioned in a tweet. “Disgusting.”
Despite the mixed reactions to a convicted dog fighter being able to return from prison and earn top dollar in the league, radio host Jim Rome could not deny the QB’s amazing rise to redemption.
“Hate what he did, and I do, but Michael Vick's comeback is astonishing,” Rome tweeted. “I didn't think he had it in him. I don't think most do. I was wrong.”
