Michele Bachmann Portrayed in "Butter" as Politically-Charged Movie Season Begins?
The season for partisan movies has begun, according to experts, even though an entire year is still left until the 2012 presidential elections.
One of very obviously political new films is a mocking comedy titled "Butter," which will premiere this year in New York and Los Angeles, reported The New York Times. The film features a young conservative Midwestern woman who very much resembles a younger version of Republican Congresswoman Michele Bachmann of Minnesota (played by Jennifer Garner).
The plot follows Laura Pickler, a young conservative politician who enters a butter-curving competition, which lends her surprising opportunities to practice her oratorical skills and polish the ability to gain the crowds' sympathy.
Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein, the producer of "Butter," reportedly told the Times that the movie is a tribute to the Tea Party.
"Butter" seems to fit in a trend, as pointed out in the article by Michael Cieply, who reminded reaeders that Hollywood indeed tends to go partisan around the time of presidential elections.
"The goal is to promote an election-season movie as a campaign talking point that they [filmmakers] hope will play a role in voters' choice for the White House," Cieply wrote.
Some other politically charged movies did or will see their release before the 2012 elections, according to experts. Among those, are an HBO show based on a book with a self-explanatory title, Game Change: Obama and the Clintons, McCain and Palin, and the Race of a Lifetime, which was released in January. A movie about Osama Bin Laden is also in the works.
Political movies are an elections year tradition, Cieply wrote. For example, the 2008 campaign was accompanied by left-leaning films like "Religulous," "W.," "Milk," "Che," and "Taxi to the Dark Side."
On the conservative side, reportedly a flick is about to come from Hollywood-based Republican backer, Lionel Chetwynd, but the details are not yet known.
