Michelle Obama Joins Twitter: Over 100,000 Viewers on First Day

First Lady Michelle Obama joined Twitter on Thursday. In just two hours, Mrs. Obama raked in over 28,000 followers on the social networking site, MSN reported.

"We're excited today to launch @michelleobama as a new way for you to connect with First Lady Michelle Obama and the President's campaign," read the first tweet from the First Lady’s new account.

The second tweet tells followers how to distinguish between posts from the first lady and posts made by the campaign staff.

“This account will be managed by campaign staff, with any tweets from the First Lady herself signed ‘-mo,’” the tweet read.

A few hours later Mrs. Obama, or “Mo,” sent her first tweet. “Hi, everyone, and thanks for the warm welcome. Look forward to staying in touch with you here. –mo”

As of Thursday afternoon, Mrs. Obama has over 145,000 followers. Mrs. Obama also has a Facebook page, where she has over 6 million subscribers.

The First Lady still has a long way to go if she wants to reach her husband’s twitter following of over 11 million followers to date.
