Michelle Obama on Instagram, Visits Senegal in Africa on Vacation
Michelle Obama joined Instagram Thursday, and the First Lady of the United States is already busy at work posting pictures, videos, and inspiring many of her fans and followers on the social media website. Currently she is on a tour of Africa, and visited Dakar, Senegal as one of her earliest stops.
Michelle Obama's account on Instagram has documented her travels while on vacation in Africa, and the First Lady's first stop was at a middle school in Senegal's capital city, Dakar.
"My first instagram! So inspired and so impressed by these extraordinary young women. -mo #FLOTUSinAfrica," she wrote, accompanied by picture of her, some of the local children and teachers and her daughters, Sasha and Malia.
The next thing she posted was a video, which is a feature Instagram added recently. The First Lady documented the schoolgirls' dance in sync with white gloves and floral dresses.
"Students perform a welcome ceremony at MLK Middle School in Dakar. #FLOTUSinAfrica," she said. "'You all are role models for my daughters, which is why I brought them here today - so that they could be inspired by you just like I am.' -First Lady Michelle Obama at MLK Middle School in Dakar #FLOTUSinAfrica."
During her journey, the First Lady and her daughters also made it to Goree Island, the infamous place where many slaves were held. Shackles, cells, and other items from the slave trade are still intact there.
Goree Island is also the last place many Africans got to see of their motherland before being taken away.
"The Door of No Return on Goree Island," the First Lady wrote, along with a picture of the foreboding doorway.
