Michelle Obama Says She Identifies With Single Mothers

Michelle Obama recently let it be known that she identifies herself as a single mother.

Mrs. Obama, the first lady of the United States of America, recently corrected herself after calling herself a busy single mother when speaking about her obligations to her children and work.

"Believe me, as a busy single mother– or, I shouldn't say single, as a busy mother," Mrs. Obama said Thursday on CBS affiliate WCAX in Vermont. "Sometimes, you know, when you've got a husband who is President, it can feel a little single. But he's there."

The first lady went on to elaborate about some of the tasks that she had to undertake even before Barack Obama became the president.

"But as a busy working mom, and before coming to the White House, I was in that position, you know, as well," Mrs. Obama told WCAX. "Working, driving kids to practice, not having enough time to shop or cook, not having the energy, you know, the resources weren't the issue but time and energy is key."

Still, Mrs. Obama has been vocal about the importance of she and her husband putting family first.

"Our job is, first and foremost, to make sure our family is whole. You know, we have small kids; they're growing every day," she told Vogue magazine recently. "But I think we were both pretty straightforward when we said, `Our No. 1 priority is making sure that our family is whole.'"

When speaking about her husband, Mrs. Obama said one of the greatest lessons that she has learned from him has to do with his calm demeanor.

"Well, patience and calm I'm borrowing. Or trying to mirror. I've learned that from my husband, that sort of, you know, ability to not get too high or too low with changes and bumps in the road," she revealed to Vogue. "To do more breathing in and just going with it. I'm learning that every day."
