Michelle Rodriguez Says 'The Fast and the Furious' Franchise Should 'Evolve or Die' If It Remains Stagnant in Female Power

Michelle Rodriguez continues to advocate for female empowerment in "The Fast and the Furious" franchise, in which she stars as Letty Ortiz.

In an interview with TMZ, the actress once again hinted at leaving the series if it continues to make a hash of its female characters. She said:

My path is about female empowerment, and if I'm feeling a little stagnant in that area in what I'm doing for a living, then I'm gonna have to move on.

Back in June, Rodriguez hinted at ditching "The Fast and the Furious" as she announced the release of the most recent film, "The Fate of the Furious," on DVD.

I hope they decide to show some love to the women of the franchise on the next one. Or I just might have to say goodbye to a loved franchise. It's been a good ride [and I'm so] grateful for the opportunity the fans [and] studio have provided over the years ... One Love.

The most recent film added Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren to the mix, but it also let go of Jordana Brewster in the wake of Paul Walker's death since their characters were husband and wife in "The Fast and the Furious."

Early this year, Brewster said that her not coming back in the eighth installment "wasn't a choice," adding that the character's absence "came about organically" following Walker's untimely demise in 2013. She, however, says she keeps her doors open just in case she is invited to return.

As for Rodriguez, she hopes that she, at the least, gets to interact with the other women in the franchise.

I can count with one hand the times I've talked to the female actresses in the franchise, and I think that's kinda sad.

There will only be two "The Fast and the Furious" films left to rectify this issue. There is no word about them either, but Rodriguez is expected to star in both. However, it looks like she is not afraid to ditch it altogether if females continue to be left behind in the franchise.
