Michelle Wilkins remembers moments before her baby was cut out of her womb
Six months after her baby was cut out from her womb by a stranger who posed as a maternity clothes seller, Michelle Wilkins remembers the last hours before she lost consciousness.
Wilkins, 26, talked to Dr. Phil and told him that she was seven months pregnant when Dynel Catrece Lane, 34, hit her in the head with a lava lamp before she was stabbed.
Lane allegedly lured Wilkins into her home with a Craiglist ad claiming that she was selling some maternity clothes. The unsuspecting Wilkins walked into the house and said she was "very confused when it all started." She recalled how Lane broke something over her head and she felt liquid quickly pouring all over her.
Wilkins also shared how she and her partner Dan spent some time with their baby Aurora before she died. "Dan and I thought she was the most beautiful thing we had ever seen," she said in tears.
According to People, Lane is now faced with charges of first-degree attempted murder, assault, and child abuse.
Local police say Lane beat up and choked the mother-to-be before she used a kitchen knife and broken glass to slice the baby out of the womb. Longmont police officer Billy Sawyer told the New York Daily News that Wilkins thought she still carried the baby and only realized the horrible truth when she woke up the next morning at the hospital.
Several outlets have retrieved a copy of Wilkins' 911 call where she is heard to breathe heavily and sounded groggy as she tried to detail the events following Lane's attacks.
David Ridley, Lane's husband, took her to the hospital after he found Lane covered in blood. Hospital staff witness that Lane referred to the baby as "my son," claiming she had a miscarriage, but the staff later ruled out any signs of miscarriage.
Longmont public safety Chief Mike Butler said Lane may be suffering a mental illness as she lost a 19-month-old son in 2002. The suspect is now being held on $2 million bail, and while she is expected to stand trial early next year, she has pleaded "not guilty" to all eight felony counts.
