Michelle Williams: I Don't Have to Congratulate Beyonce on Twitter
Although many celebrities publicly expressed their congratulations to Beyonce and Jay-Z for their newborn baby girl via social media, Michelle Williams refused to celebrate the birth of Blue Ivy Carter on Twitter.
“Let’s get ONE thing straight … I do NOT have to say congrats to someone when they’re NOT on twitter,” she tweeted from her account.
Beyonce’s verified Twitter account boasts more than two million followers, but she has not tweeted anything about her newborn, the birth, or the recent incident.
Michelle’s failure to praise the couple for their infant, born Saturday, Jan. 7, sparked an outcry from many of her followers on Twitter, who thought it was only right the songstress acknowledge little Blue Ivy Carter.
Williams became defensive on Twitter, stating that the most important thing about the baby girl’s birth was privacy, not public shoutouts.
“This is a beautiful, precious, private time between two people and excitement is to be expected but NOT disrespect! #churchdismissed,” the singer tweeted.
According to Williams, certain followers were scouring her social media accounts, looking to see if she had mentioned her former Destiny’s Child group member or her husband, rapper Jay-Z, originally Shawn Carter.
A lot of media presence surrounding Beyonce and Jay-Z’s newest addition to the family only made it more obvious that Williams’ had not commented on the situation. For the singer, though, a broadcasting recognition pales in comparison to a good old-fashioned face-to-face hello.
“I talk or email (the couple) all the time … I’ll be physically present as well,” tweeted Michelle. “My friendship with people aren’t always for twitter display. Respect that and get a LIFE!!! Enjoy this FINE day!!! God bless!!!!”
Curiously, Kelly Rowland, who formed the third member of R&B supergroup Destiny’s Child, did not comment on social media about the birth either. For whatever reason, however, her digitally absent congratulations were either unnoticed or unheeded.
LeToya Luckett, a former Destiny’s Child singer, did tweet her sentiments, though.
“A BIG congrats to Bey & J!!!! God bless ya’ll,” she said.
