Michigan Shooting Update: Suspect Blames Uber, Claims Demon Possessed Him
Uber is to be blamed for the death of six people in the state of Michigan if the claims of the driver accused in the shooting rampage is to be believed.
Jason Dalton, 45, told the police that, as soon as he logged on to the app, a symbol which he claims to be an Eastern Star, appeared. He further added that the symbol in reference resembled the devil's head, and that was when the supposed control of his mind and body occurred.
"Dalton described the devil figure as a horned cow head or something like that and then it would give you an assignment and it would literally take over your whole body," said the Kalamazoo police.
However, Dalton's wife, Carole Dalton, relayed a different story, telling authorities that her husband had told her that day that he was having issues with a taxi driver whom Dalton alleged as jealous of him and had a plan of shooting him. Carole also claimed that her husband had warned her to not to stay home unless she had a weapon to protect herself.
The police said that the unfortunate case of Dalton's random shooting transpired on February 20 while performing his duties as an Uber driver. Interestingly, none of the eight people he randomly fired at were Uber passengers.
Meanwhile, Uber said that it hired Dalton after the background check it conducted revealed that he had no previous criminal records.
A Michigan court has already ordered Dalton to undergo a mental competency test. Whatever the results may be, though, he will still be held liable for the crime he committed that resulted in the death of six and injury of two others.
If proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt, Dalton will serve a life-prison sentence, as the State of Michigan does not have a death penalty.
