Microsoft IP 'Fable' Series Continuation Is Still Uncertain
Despite the clamor from fans for developers to continue the "Fable" video game series, an Xbox executive has recently stated that the making of a new main title release is still not on the table.
The "Fable" franchise is one of the more popular role-playing action IPs from Microsoft. There were plans for a supposed main game release titled "Fable Legends," but it was scrapped along with the closure of Lionhead Studios -- the studio that had been working on the franchise.
During the PAX Australia events last week, the head of Xbox's first-party publishing team, Shannon Loftis, talked about the "Fable" series and admitted that she was also hoping to see more of the game franchise.
"Fable is very near and dear to my heart," Loftis told GameSpot. "Actually one of the primary reasons [I moved to England] was to work with the team on Fable II." She added: "Fable Fortune is now out, the card game. We love the IP. I can't talk right now about whether we're doing anything with it or not, but if I ever get the chance to go back to Albion ... "
Despite the cancellation of "Fable Legends," which would have been a co-op action role-playing game, Microsoft supported the release of "Fable Fortune" -- a collectible card game designed and inspired by the characters, locations and stories that were tailored for the "Fable" series. Its development was headed by the third-party studio Flaming Fowl.
The fans' continuing support for the "Fable" gaming franchise is a good reason to hope for another release. GameSpot also suggested that Microsoft could be handling the "Fable" franchise the same way Electronic Arts approached the "Mass Effect" series, which is by giving the game a little more time to lay low from the market before it comes back to the pipeline.
