Microsoft Lumia 950 Rumors Surface Once More, Company To Announce Twin Flagships, New Surface Slate In October
Compared to iOS and Android-powered devices, the Windows Mobile platform occupies a very small portion of the smartphone market. Consumers who have been loyal to the Microsoft-developed platform have had a number of choices over the past year, mainly scaling the entry level and midrange categories.
Unfortunately, the Redmond giant has not yet unveiled any Lumia flagships this year. In a tight smartphone competition where the most fresh devices always get the most attention, Microsoft should have something in mind.
Thankfully, it seems that the rumors about the Microsoft Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL are resurfacing. According to a Phone Arena report, the two devices should be announced by Microsoft in a press event in October.
In the report, the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL will aim to divert the focus of consumers from newly-released handsets in August and September, just in time for the holiday shopping season.
Based on previous leaks, the Lumia 950 will boast a 5.2-inch display with a QHD or 2K (2560 x 1440) resolution, 3GB of RAM, and a Snapdragon 808 hexa-core chipset similar to that of the LG G4.
In addition, there will be a 20MP PureView primary camera, 3,000mAh battery, and a microSD card slot to expand the 32GB built-in storage.
Meanwhile, the Lumia 950 XL would get a larger 5.7-inch screen with the same resolution, identical amount of RAM, camera resolution, built-in storage and expandable memory. However, it gets a more powerful Snapdragon 810 chipset, and a slightly bigger 3,300mAh battery to compensate for the bigger display.
Aside from the two high-end Lumias, another highlight of the event would be the announcement of the newest Surface Pro 4 tablet. Considered a serious rival of the MacBook 2015, the Surface Pro 4 should be an exciting device due to better specs, and an overall better user experience, thanks to Windows 10.
Rounding up the rumored devices to be announced in the October event is the next-gen Microsoft Band 2.
