Microsoft Office 2016 News: Leaked Screenshot Reveals September Windows Launch Date
A leaked screenshot of a memo has revealed Microsoft is planning to release Office 2016 for Windows by September.
German tech website WinFuture.de has posted a screenshot of an intranet site from a Microsoft employee which lists September 22 as the Windows release date for Office 2016.
Apart from the release date, the screenshot of the Office 2016 Launch Hub, announced updates for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook, OneNote, Skype for Business, Access, Project, and Visio.
It also included call to action for employees to start using a public preview of the software, asking them to check back frequently on the Office 2016 commercial readiness hub for further training and other pertinent marketing materials in preparation for the launch.
Office 2016's design and layout does not differ much from Office 2013, except for the colorful menu bars that have earlier been seen in the software's mobile version, which will now be seen on the desktop.
There will also be a dark theme for the new software, including an improved search for Outlook 2016, and image insertion improvements in Word 2016 and Excel 2016.
The most significant change will be Office 2016's real-time collaboration after Microsoft provided support for real-time simultaneous editing for the new software, a co-authoring feature that has only been available in online-only versions so far. There will also be access to the "Tell Me" feature, previously seen in web and mobile apps, that provide users quick access to Office 2016's hidden settings via the text search box.
While the screenshot did not detail price points for the new OS, rumors have emerged Office 2016 will be priced at €140 ($160) for the Home & Student edition and €240 ($275) for the Home & Business edition.
Microsoft has not commented on the leaked screenshot of its Office 2016 Launch Hub.
