Microsoft releases updated Skype for Android and iOS

Microsoft has released an updated Skype for Android and iOS devices that includes a new interface and improved communication features.

Microsoft launched Skype 6.0 for Andoid and iOS to make the video chat app more user-friendly on mobile devices. In a statement, Skype explained that the revamped app is more "intuitive," according to V3.

"We've redesigned Skype to be much more natural and intuitive, and have added a bunch of new capabilities to make it even more delightful to use," Microsoft said in a blog announcement.

The new floating action button makes it easier for users to begin a new voice call, video call, chat, or send a video message. Microsoft has also enhanced the search function in Skype 6.0., making it much faster for users to find their most important conversations and contacts.

The company has specifically designed Skype 6.0 to adapt to the different features present in each operating system. Skype 6.0 for iOS now allows users to enable swipe gestures on their iPhone and iPads for call and message management. The swipe gestures can also be used to either mute or delete conversations, IBC World News reports.

With the addition of an attachment icon, Microsoft has made it easier for iOS users to share photos, emoticons, links, and even their location while doing a voice or video call, the report explains.

As part of the change in its interface, the buttons found at the bottom of the Skype app clearly indicate the sections. The Android version of Skype 6.0 also has the same navigation style.

The Skype features available on the iPhone are now present in the Skype app for the iPad. Worth mentioning are the improved instant messaging feature and the group chat or voice call for iPads.

As of now, Microsoft is developing a new Skype app specifically for the Windows 10 mobile operating system.
