Microsoft Surface Phone: Company Deems 'Too Early' for Flagship's Unveiling

Spring is a very important season for the Redmond giant when it comes to new releases, but the first Microsoft Surface handset is not one of them.
According to Mary Jo Foley, who is known for her insider knowledge on Microsoft's upcoming releases, it is still "too early" for the unveiling of the Surface Phone.

It was stated in the past that Microsoft is actively working on the smartphone flagship, but needs more time to perfect it as they are designing it to be a pocket-sized laptop that can support Win32 applications.
In a patent by Microsoft that emerged early this year, it was revealed that the company is indeed working on something for its mobile department.
The subject of the patent, which dates back to 2014, is a foldable mechanism for a mobile device, which is reportedly going to be used on the Microsoft Surface Phone.
The patent application shows a handset that can be folded with the use of a flexible hinge, but can also be extended to look like a mini tablet.
While there is no confirmation yet if this design will be used, let alone on the Microsoft Surface Phone, it does match the company's vision to make the flagship a powerful pint-sized computer.
Of course, since the device is not expected to arrive anytime soon, users will likely see foldable phones in action with Samsung expected to use such technology on its Galaxy X device.
As for the release date, Microsoft is reportedly going for a 2019 launch. By that time, they should have perfected Microsoft Surface Phone's powerful build.
Also by this time, the company will finally be able to make use of the features of the Redstone 3, which is expected to be released fall next year.
