Microsoft Surface Phone Not Coming Until 2018?

The wait for the Microsoft Surface Phone will not be over soon, but the Redmond giant has a smartphone offering in store for its patrons this year.

This is according to a Reddit user who claims to have worked for Microsoft as a contractor. "Microsoft will release a new phone this year. Not a Surface phone. I don't know what this new 2017-phone will be like, but I recently heard that a release is still planned," he wrote.

He suggested that a device like the Microsoft Surface Phone, which is expected to finally have the long-awaited Win32 application support, will not arrive until next year or 2019.

"Some special phone-PC-like Windows 10 ARM device will probably arrive in late 2018 or 2019. I have no more info on that, but I think Windows 10 ARM is much further away than some of us hope," the insider went on to say.

German Windows-centric site DrWindows is also reporting that the purported device believed to be the Microsoft Surface Phone will not be released this year or the next.

Microsoft has big plans for the Surface Phone. It is said that the coveted Win32 support feature is being saved for the flagship and that it is meant to work like a pocket-sized laptop.

According to the sources that spoke to the abovementioned publication, the software titan has a long way to go before they can complete the development of the Microsoft Surface Phone.

Until then, the company will still release a new Windows 10 device so that it will not be completely off the mobile grid for the year.

Lining up with the former Microsoft's employee's revelations on Reddit, DrWindows also claims that a non-Surface Phone handset will indeed be released by the end of the year.

This device should help Windows fans get by while they wait for the arrival of the Microsoft Surface Phone.
