Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Release Date, Specs Rumors: Hybrid Tablet to Launch in April?
The rumor mill has been churning out a lot of speculations about the development and release of the Microsoft Surface Pro 5. Recently, rumors have been circulating that the much-awaited hybrid tablet will be unveiled this spring and could be powered by the latest AMD Ryzen processor instead of Intel's Kaby Lake chipset.
Many were expecting that the Surface Pro 5 would debut at the recently held Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. But since it was a no-show at the event, there are those who are now under the impression that the highly anticipated device might debut within the same month as the Windows 10 Creators Update scheduled for release on April 11.
While this rumor remains unconfirmed, Microsoft does have a track record of releasing new Surface Pro hardware after the launch of a major software update. The release of Windows 8.1 in April 2014 was followed by the launch of the Surface Pro 3 in June of the same year. When the first iteration of the Windows 10 software went live in July 2015, the Surface Pro 4 was subsequently released in October 2015.
Moreover, this rumored spring release date of the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is further supported by a report by ZDNet last year that the Windows 10 Creators Update was pushed back to a spring 2017 release to support "a new wave of Microsoft-branded Windows devices."
Though the Surface Pro 5 was previously speculated to arrive with Intel's latest Kaby Lake processor, new reports now claim that the upcoming hybrid tablet will be powered by AMD's new Ryzen processor.
Aside from having a new powerful chip, the Surface Pro 5 is also speculated to feature a 4K resolution display, an improved Surface Pen with rechargeable ability and the upcoming Windows 10 Creators Update.
If these rumors are proven true, Microsoft fans and tech enthusiasts can expect the Surface Pro 5 to be announced sometime this spring, possibly in April.
