Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Specs Rumors: AMD-Powered Tablet-Laptop?
Recently, reports speculate that a movie trailer might have given away an important hint about the yet-to-be-announced tablet-laptop product from Microsoft dubbed as the Surface Pro 5.
20th Century Fox recently released the trailers for an upcoming movie called "Alien: Covenant." On one of the teaser videos, the main character - a humanoid named Walter - was introduced. Walter is an upgraded robot developed to look exactly like humans and to serve people.
In the early parts of the said trailer, developers clad in a black coat and a white plastic net mask go inside a laboratory where the mold for Walter is placed. One of the scientists is using a tablet-laptop that, according to reports, greatly resembles the latest Microsoft Surface Pro model except that it is obviously thinner.
Shortly after, the scientists assembled the mold for Walter. A few moments before they activate the robot, the scientists insert a chip in Walter's body that clearly sports the official logo of AMD. To help fans be certain, a message that says "Intelligence powered by AMD" is shown at the end of the trailer.
Though the events in the said movie trailer do not directly point to anything related to the announcement of Microsoft Surface Pro 5, there is still a good chance that the Redmond, Washington technology company might opt for the newly released AMD Ryzen processors for the upcoming Surface Pro 5 simply for its powerful performance.
AMD Ryzen seems to be giving the Intel Kaby Lake a run for its money. Apart from the featured auto overclock, the pairing of core and thread processes across the entire Ryzen product line is also remarkable considering its relatively low price point.
Earlier reports which compare the benchmark results for competing processors show that AMD is taking a commanding lead even if the pricing aspect is to be ruled out.
PC World previously shared a benchmark test showing that while the Ryzen 7 1800X and Intel's Core i7-6900K have the same 8-core and 16-thread pairing, the AMD Ryzen 7 1800X performed with a base clock of 3.6-gigahertz and a 4.0 GHz turbo speed compared to the latter's 3.2 GHz base speed and 3.7 GHz overclock.
Now for the price comparison, the AMD Ryzen 7 1800X only costs $499 while the Intel Core i7-6900K's price tag is $1,089.
With the performance and competitive price that Ryzen 7 chips have to offer, it will not be a surprise if Microsoft decides to choose it over the Kaby Lakes for the upcoming Surface Pro 5. Unfortunately, as of the moment, Microsoft has not yet said a word about the anticipated tablet-laptop's specs.
