Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Vs. Surface Pro 4 Comparison: Now That Discounts Are Up, Is Surface Pro 5 Worth the Wait?

One of the most anticipated releases in the technology world this year is Microsoft's Surface Pro 5. But is it worth the wait now that its predecessor and Microsoft's current tablet-laptop flagship, the Surface Pro 4, is being sold at a very good deal?

The tradition for technology firms is to surpass every predecessor product with the specs of a new flagship release, and it might also be the case for Surface Pro 5.

However, despite the fact that nothing has been officially confirmed yet about its rumored specs, much of the hype for the upcoming tablet-laptop can be attributed to the competitive features already found in the Surface Pro 4.

On the other hand, are the rumored Surface Pro 5 specs so epic that people will be convinced to snub the $200 discount offer for the Surface Pro 4?

To begin with, the Surface Pro 5 is highly expected to carry Intel's latest processing chip from the seventh generation Kaby Lake lineup, specifically the up-to-date Core i7-7700 that promises a base clock speed of 3.6-gigahertz and up to a 4.2-GHz turbo speed. Meanwhile, the latest chip that can be ordered on a Surface Pro 4 is the i7 sixth generation Skylake processor that runs at a maximum speed 3.5 GHz.

In terms of display capacity, as of now, the Surface Pro 4 is capable of a 2,736 x 1,824 resolution display. The Surface Pro 5 is rumored to sport an ample 3,840 x 2,160 resolution that supports 4K viewing. There are other reports suggesting that the upcoming tablet-laptop might also deliver an ultra high-definition display. However, battery issues might become a concern.

On other specs, the Surface Pro 5 is expected to sport as much as 16 GB random access memory and up to 1 TB internal memory, which are currently being offered in the Surface Pro 4.

In the design department, many are hoping that the Surface Pro 5 will arrive lighter and thinner for a more efficient and improved portability aspect. This is currently the trend for a new generation product.

Another major component in the Surface Pro line is the Surface Pen stylus, and it looks like Surface Pro 5 will get the upper hand. The current compatible stylus for the Surface Pro 4 is not rechargeable, whereas Microsoft is rumored to pack the Surface Pro 5 box with a newly-designed stylus with recharging qualities.

Microsoft has yet to speak about their official plans while the Surface Pro 5 is expected to be released this year.
