Midwestern Honors Individuals with Medallion on its Annual President's Day
Three influential individuals at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (MBTS) were honored last week with the President's Medallion, during the school's first annual President's Day.
The Board of Trustees at the Kansas City, MO.-based campus voted unanimously in March to establish this special day, according to the seminary's news release, to recognize those who have made a significant impact on the seminary and Christian higher education.
The three recipients of the special medallion were: Gene Downing, of Oklahoma City, a Midwestern trustee and member of the seminary's Board of Regents; Cindy Province, a Midwestern Board of Regent member, Board of Trustee at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and a member of the Executive Board of the Missouri Baptist Convention of St. Louis, and Mahlon Morley (posthumously), of Wichita, Kan., former Midwestern Regent member Mahlon Morley, who died March 22, 2005.
Midwestern President Dr. R. Philip Roberts himself presented the medallion to them during a special chapel service.
"These individuals epitomize what it means to be a steward with our time and treasure for the Kingdom," said Roberts. "They embody a deep, sacrificial commitment for training the next generation of pastors, missionaries and Christian leaders and I am pleased to recognize their selfless giving with one of the highest honors we award here at Midwestern."
Furthermore, Board of Trustees member James Freeman of Kansas City also presented Roberts and his wife, Anya, with a special plaque and citation commemorating the inaugural day in their honor.
