'Might & Magic: Showdown' Release Date, News: Players Can Customize Their Characters to Their Hearts' Content

The gaming scene has evolved to turn make-believe worlds into reality. With that in mind, Ubisoft Entertainment digs deeper and further into what kids before had in their heads and is placing them on a new tabletop game with "Might & Magic: Showdown." Since each person imagines differently, this important concept is also brought to the game.

In the title's latest trailer, art director Christian Bedard talks about the inspiration of the game's paint tool. "We wanted to give the players the feeling of painting figurines at home," Bedard said. "We went to a painting workshop to learn the basic techniques and then we recreated them in the game."

The team believes that the more the players are invested in their characters, the more they are immersed in the game. They wanted to make the experience as personal as possible, thus they endeavored to replicate a genuine feel of what it was like to create a character from the ground up.

Producer Philippe Ducharme added that the players have access to two painting modes, namely the full paint mode and free paint mode. The full paint mode allows gamers to paint rapidly by shading the same color on the base, shadows and highlight. The free paint mode is more of an expert's tool that allows specific shading of each detailed aspect of the base character.

The earlier teaser for the game goes into the overview, where aside from the paint job, the gamer more importantly plans out his strategy. The main hero can be controlled at will during combat while creatures will have a preset action before the battle starts. This can be edited through the tactical editor and could dictate the tide of the game.

"Might & Magic: Showdown" has been made available via Steam Early Access to serve like a beta. This allows the gamers to have a quick glimpse of what the game is about, and then provide feedback. As a matter of fact, the developers have been receptive that patches have been rolled out prior its official release, showing they are serious about making it a great title.

"Might & Magic: Showdown" officially releases on Feb. 19, 2017.
