Miguel Cotto vs. Canelo Alvarez Fight News: Former world champion foresees Alvarez victory despite Cotto pick
Former light middleweight world champion Austin "No Doubt" Trout believes Saul "Canelo" Alvarez will emerge victorious against Miguel Cotto when two men get to face each other on November 21st.
Trout was able to face both Cotto and Alvarez, in 2012 and 2013, respectively. He was able to split victories between the two fights, winning against Cotto by unanimous decision, but lost to Canelo in the same manner.
In a report by George Gigney of Boxing News Online, Trout believes Canelo's youth will give him the edge in what has been described as a super-fight for boxing's old Mexico vs. Puerto Rico rivalry.
"Cotto's experience gives him a bit of an edge but Canelo's youth, strength and size is going to give him the fight in my opinion. I'm rooting for Cotto though."
Trout also pointed out the flaws that both fighters possess. According to him, Canelo's main weakness is his stamina, while Cotto's easy scarring would be detrimental to the fight.
Cotto has had career resurgence, particularly when he began working with renowned boxing trainer Freddie Roach. Since the two men began working together in October 2013, the Puerto Rican boxer won all of his next four fights. The most notable one being the WBC and Ring Magazine lineal middleweight titles against Argentina's Sergio Martinez in June 2014.
Martinez lost Cotto via tenth round stoppage, which eventually led to his decision to retire from the sport at the age of 40.
While Trout beleives that Roach has done wonders for Cotto, it does not mean that he will not be defeated.
"In a sense, he's a different fighter but they said the same thing when he teamed up with Pedro Diaz. Before I beat Cotto they were talking about how he had new legs, and then after I beat him they said he wasn't fit or whatever. But he does look good now."
The fight is scheduled to take place at the Mandalay bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
