Mike Huckabee, John MacArthur Among Honorees at NRB 2013 Awards Night
NASHVILLE – Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee was one of several prominent leaders in broadcasting that received awards during the last night of the annual National Religious Broadcasters convention. The weekend show host for Fox News Channel won the NRB Board of Directors Award during the awards dinner Tuesday.
"I'm honored and I just want to be a little salt and light in a world full of decay and darkness, and that's what you all do every day," said Huckabee upon receiving the award.
The NRB Board of Directors Award honors a Christian who demonstrates integrity, displays creativity and makes a significant impact on society. In recognition that broadcasting is not the only way to witness to the power of the Gospel, the award recipient may or may not be in the field of electronic communications.
"Gov. Huckabee has utilized the various platforms that God has given him to make a positive impact on society," said NRB President & CEO Dr. Frank Wright. "Furthermore, he has been intentional about shining the light of Christ in some of the darkest areas of society. I applaud him for his faithfulness and efforts."
After an early career in broadcasting and advertising, Gov. Huckabee spent 12 years as a pastor and denominational leader. He became the youngest president ever of the Arkansas Southern Baptist State Convention, the largest denomination in Arkansas. He also led rapidly growing congregations in Pine Bluff and Texarkana. He said those experiences gave him a deep sense of the problems faced by individuals and families.
Huckabee is the host of HUCKABEE on the Fox News Channel and Cumulus Media Networks' syndicated radio program, The Mike Huckabee Show, heard on more than 175 stations. He's also heard three times daily across the nation on The Huckabee Report syndicated on almost 600 stations, and has been the fastest growing new program on the Cumulus Media Network in recent years.
Dr. John MacArthur, the pastor-teacher of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, Calif., president of The Master's College and Seminary, and featured teacher with the Grace to You media ministry, received the prestigious NRB Hall of Fame Award.
"I am deeply grateful for this. The Lord has surrounded me with wonderful people," MacArthur said after accepting the award. "I'm basically a preacher and a teacher of the word of God.
"At the end of the day, it's all [about] mercy. None of us is worthy. We are saved by grace. We are given ministry by mercy. The greatest blessing comes to me for this mercy which is as God's mercies always are, new every morning. Thank you for this very kind, gracious expression of your confidence in what Grace to You has endeavored to do through you. God bless you," he said.
The National Religious Broadcasters Hall of Fame "stands as a witness for current communicators, a showcase of warriors for Christ who live exemplary lives of valor and compassion, blazing trails and leaving paths for succeeding generations to follow." NRB's most prestigious award is presented to an individual NRB member for invaluable contribution to the field of Christian communications, exhibition of the highest standards and evidence of faithfulness in Christ.
"It is our honor and privilege to induct John into NRB's Hall of Fame," said Wright in a previous statement. "John's commitment and faithfulness have inspired so many in their walk with Christ. I praise God for his exemplary ministry."
