FDNY Chief Slams Huckabee for Profiting From 9/11 Cartoon
On the 10th anniversary of the tragic 9/11 attacks that killed thousands and changed the course of history, Mike Huckabee will be selling a controversial cartoon about the attacks for $10.
The former Arkansas governor and GOP presidential candidate has produced a series of educational DVDs aimed at children to teach them about the 9/11 attacks and the war on terror.
"The first one's $9.95, and then it goes to $11.95,” Huckabee said on Pat Robertson’s 700 Club.
However, some people have expressed anger over Huckabee’s decision to profit off the 9/11 attacks, including retired NYC fire chief, Jim Riches, who lost his firefighter son, Jim Jr., on 9/11.
"Three thousand Americans were murdered, and it's for his personal gain. I think it's blood money," Riches told Local New York City TV station, PIX 11.
“Kids today are simply not excited by the incredible stories and lessons of our past,” Huckabee says on his website, MikeHuckabe.com.
“What’s worse, some teachers and education boards are using history and social studies classes as their soap box to promote their own political opinions and biases! And to me, that’s simply unacceptable.”
A preview of the first DVD shows the Twin Towers being attacked and immediately cuts to an animated image of Osama bin Laden that says America was attacked by “Muslim terrorists” as Arabic music plays in the background.
"I think for politicians trying to teach our kids, we're in trouble,” Jim Riches added. “Leave it to the teachers, the educators."
On Huckabee’s website, it is mentioned that a portion of the proceeds goes to the families of 9/11 victims.
Huckabee is not the only one who will use the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks as a marketing ploy.
Salon.com recently reported that The Campaign to Defeat Barack Obama, a political action committee tied to the Tea Party Express, recently sent out a mass email asking supporters to buy commemorative pins of the terror attacks so that “Americans never, ever forget those who lost their lives on 9/11 and what this country endured."
The pins will go for $10 each.
And earlier this year, National Collectors’ Mint, a company that sold commemorative coins for the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks for $29.95, was shut down for deceptive advertising. The company advertised the coins as 24 karat gold and containing silver from the World Trade Center site, but CNN reported that the coins contained only 14 mg of gold and no real silver from the site.
