Southern Baptist, Liberty University professor: 5 interesting facts about House Speaker Mike Johnson
2020 election
Back in 2020, Mike Johnson was among several elected Republican officials who raised questions about the results of the 2020 presidential election, where Democrat Joe Biden defeated Republican President Donald Trump.
In an interview shortly after Biden’s victory, Johnson said “there was a lot amiss about this election” and that “the fix was in,” speaking about a variety of voting inconsistencies and irregularities in states, such as Georgia not requiring voter ID to obtain an absentee ballot and states allowing mail-in ballots that arrived late to count in the vote tallies.
He also echoed concerns that Dominion Voting Systems rigged their voting machines, which were used in several states during the 2020 presidential election.
News Corp, the parent company of Fox News, would eventually pay $787.5 million as part of a settlement with Dominion over its on-air personalities making similar allegations, with a court having concluded that the claims were false.
Johnson supported a failed lawsuit meant to overrule the results of the presidential election. In January 2021, he voted in favor of efforts to reject the electoral votes in both Arizona and Pennsylvania.
