Miley Cyrus Interview: 'I'm Messed Up,' Star Says
Miley Cyrus stunned audiences with her lewd behavior at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. Now the 20-year-old has given a very open interview in which she admitted to having issues and doing "dumb stuff."
"I'm messed up," Cyrus told the Sunday People. "I have so many [expletive] issues. I am so [expletive] up – everyone does dumb stuff when they are messed up. I don't have a normal life. I take a hiatus every now and again, but I'm not good at that."
The teen made famous on the Disney original series "Hannah Montana" is apparently working hard to shed that wholesome image.
"Others who have been on kids' shows try to act like their characters, but I'm not like that," Cyrus insisted. "I never pretended I was as good as the Disney Channel writes. I don't wear bright-colored T-shirts and talk like this all the time."
She is not alone with struggling to grow up in the public eye; Britney Spears was a young mother when she finally received help for her mental illness and addiction. More recently, Amanda Bynes was held on an extended psychiatric hold for nearly setting herself and her dog on fire. Both had conservators, or guardians, appointed while they received much-needed help.
"All I do is work, so I eat to live and to keep going," Cyrus added. "People are impressed with me because I can sleep for just 45 minutes – I'm used to it. I suppose I'm a workhorse. I love being in the studio and when I take vacation I get so bored. I think of work as something I have to do."
Friends and family are somewhat worried about Cyrus' behavior and her MTV appearance. Her father, however, said that he was proud of his daughter, and fans seemingly enjoyed the performance; the very next day, songs from her album had reached the Top 5 best-selling on iTunes.
