Miley Cyrus News: Charlotte Church Says 'It's a Phase...All She Knows is to Sell and Be Sold'

Charlotte Church thinks she has Miley Cyrus figured out. Church, the 28-year-old singer, believes that 21-year-old fellow singer Cyrus' controversial behavior that includes wearing vulgar outfits and smoking marijuana publicly are a part of a phase.

"It's so obvious this young lady has a skewed perspective because of what she's been through. All she knows is to sell and be sold," Charlotte told Stylist magazine. "This sounds patronizing but in a couple of years she'll change her tune. I went through a similar-ish thing; not to the depths she is taking it to. But it's exhibitionism. As a teenager, you're really egocentric. Why would you give a (expletive) about the rest of society?"

Cyrus has come under scrutiny for her lewd performances, but has insisted that there are double standards with men and woman and does her best to push the envelope for that reason. She previously spoke about being a feminist.

"I feel like I'm one of the biggest feminists in the world because I tell women to not be scared of anything," Cyrus said in an interview with BBC's Newsbeat last year. "Girls are all beautiful."

Although the singer has repeatedly said she does not mind the backlash she receives, she also admitted that she does her best to avoid reading it.

"I don't ever go online or look at what anyone says," she admitted to Newsbeat."I never worry about what I do on stage making me look bad because I know what kind of a person I am. In life you gotta look at anything that could be made negative into positive…I'm just happy to be here."

When "Today" host Matt Lauer asked if she minded the attention she was getting from her VMA performance last year, she revealed why she didn't.

"I mean, it's kind of what I want. I'm an artist, so I'm hoping that I get a little attention or my record sales might be a little sketch," Cyrus told Lauer last year. "I don't ever really plan to offend people, but sometimes that just happens because I think people, they're not open to what they don't understand. But that's why when I'm singing for my fans, because they're all really young so they understand what I'm doing."
