Miley Cyrus Still Cutting? New Photos Reveal Fresh Wrist Cuts
Miley Cyrus was recently photographed with wrist cuts almost two months after she first ignited self mutilation fears, and critics believe that the former Disney star is still harming herself.
Cyrus, 19, who has received widespread criticisms about her drastic weight loss, was pictured with unsightly gashes across her left wrist on May 17 and experts believe that they may have been self inflicted, according to HollywoodLife.com.
"It looks like there has been some self-cutting," Dr. Jeff Gardere, chief contributor to HealthGuru.com, told HollywoodLife.com.
"It's not about wanting to kill yourself, but about being depressed, anxious, having so much stress in your life that you resort to self-cutting to bring yourself back into reality or remove yourself from anxiety and sadness," he added.
Cyrus, who is the daughter of country music star Billy Ray Cyrus, was initially photographed with apparent wrist cuts while walking her dog at the beginning of April. Her representative denied that she was self-mutilating.
In conjunction with speculation that she was self harming, the "Party In The USA" singer was also forced to address reports that she was suffering from anorexia after revealing her substantial weight loss.
Cyrus denied being anorexic and attributed her 20-pound weight loss to a gluten-free diet and multiple Pilates classes a week, according to OK! Magazine.
"For everyone calling me anorexic I have a gluten and lactose allergy," Cyrus tweeted.
"It's not about weight it's about health. Gluten is crapppp anyway!" she also wrote.
One expert, Dr. Gilda Carle, who is a 30-Second Therapist for Today.com, explained that self-mutilation can be treated with the right help but stated that she was "not sure [Miley] thinks she has a problem."
"When you lose a lot of weight or you cut, it's a control mechanism. People who take control in these ways do so in a very destructive manner and that's what the problem is," Dr. Carle said.
