Millions of Youth Prepare to Stand for Sexual Purity on Valentines Day

Millions of youth around the world plan to make a public statement dedicating themselves to sexual abstinence until marriage, on the Day of Purity, Valentines Day, 2005

Millions of youth around the world plan to make a public statement dedicating themselves to sexual abstinence until marriage, on the Day of Purity, Valentines Day, 2005. The Day of Purity, spearheaded by the Liberty Counsel, gives children and young adults the opportunity to counter the stereotyped image that the American youth is promiscuous and sexually active.

The Day of Purity began in 2004, under the auspices of the Liberty Counsel, and has since spread to seven foreign countries. Last year, several hundreds of pro-family and Christian organizations, including the American Family Association, Concerned Women for America, Coral Ridge Ministries and True Love Waits, joined hands with several thousands of schools, to dedicate February 13 as a day for youth to freely and proudly declare their desire for abstinence.

According to Liberty Council, current day textbooks often encourage America’s youth to be involved in sexual relationships.

“One freshman health textbook tells students that "testing your ability to function sexually and give pleasure to another person may be less threatening in your early teens with people of your own sex. You may come to the conclusion that growing up means rejecting the values of your parents."” statement from the Liberty Council read. “Other organizations readily admit to trying to steer our youth away from traditional values.”

The Day of Purity gives youth the chance to counter that message and stand up for what they truly believe – a recent NBC News and People Magazine poll shoed that only 30% of teens are sexually active. Of the teens who were not sexually active, 42% attributed their choice to religious or moral beliefs.

"The Day of Purity gives all of us an immediate opportunity to make a positive difference, to change lives, to restore our culture,” said Rena Lindevaldsen, International Coordinator for the Day of Purity.

Mathew Staver, President and General Counsel of Liberty Counsel, said: "Now is the time for every one who is concerned about the moral depravity of this culture to stand with our youth. Millions of youth have rejected the MTV culture. They want to be respected for who they are instead of being viewed as sexual objects to be used or discarded at will."
