'Minecraft' Upates: Snapshot 15W50A Release Coincides with New Trailer for Pocket and Windows 10 Editions
Mojang is in a jovial mood this week as it celebrates a year of updates for "Minecraft: Pocket Edition" and "Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta." Speaking of updates, the developer also released snapshot 15W50A.
"Minecraft" snapshot 15W50A fixes bugs and adds new sounds
Mojang announced "Minecraft" snapshot 15W50A on Wednesday, Dec. 9. The snapshot included bug fixes and new sound files.
The snapshot fixed the following bugs:
- Skeleton AI ignoring helmets, causing the skeleton to stay still in the shadows
- Loot tables not working with hoppers
- Zombies making no attempt at escaping cacti once they touch them
- Mobs not pathfinding through open fence gates
- Zombie/skeleton/zombie pigman arm animation glitching if they can't reach you
- Pathfinding around and over shulkers
- Game crashing when a fireball is shot
The new snapshot also comes with new sounds. Players will now be able to hear the sound of milk, squid, tilling, grasspath making, painting, furnace cooking, and snowman. There's also the sound for equipping armor and bucket sounds for water and lava splash.
"Minecraft" trailer highlights game's new features
The new "Minecraft" trailer showcased some of the fresh features Mojang has added to the game this year for its 30 million mobile crafters to enjoy.
Mojang has made the wild outdoors more fun for players. Now they can tame ocelots or catch some fish on a boat — or as Steve showed viewers in the video, even on the shore. Players can also join together, enter a portal, and explore the Nether.
When exploring the wide world of "Minecraft," players may see squids in the water or bats in caves. These are passive mobs, so they may not pose a real threat to a gamer's character. What they should really look out for are spiders in caves, spider and chicken jockeys, and not-so-adorable baby zombies as these will attack.
The video also showed redstone-powered components and the Brewing Station where players can concoct some fancy potions.
All these features and more are available across platforms. "Minecraft: Pocket Edition" is available at $6.99 for iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and the Amazon Appstore. There's also a Windows 10 Beta Edition for those who prefer to play on the PC.
