Ministry Revisits Households as Major Outreach Target

A major international media and healthcare ministry announced Monday that the main strategy of its new initiative to spread the Gospel is urging prayer for households in the United States and around the world.

HCJB Global made the announcement at the National Religious Broadcasters convention, which closes on Tuesday. The new initiative, called "Me and My Household," challenges Americans to pray for their household, reach out to their communities through service projects, as well as pray for the unreached households in the world.

"Households have always been a significant part of the Christian faith," said HCJB Global president Wayne Pederson. "Since the days of the early church, households were traditionally places of worship, teaching, prayer and fellowship."

The new HCJB president, whose inauguration ceremony took place in January, noted that the households in America and the West have become increasingly fragmented and most no longer uphold the tradition of being the core unit for worship and fellowship.

"These are serious times for families and households in America and around the world," Pederson said. "As families and households change, communities change. As communities change, cities change. As cities change, nations change. And as nations change, the world will be changed."

HCJB hopes that Western households can be strengthened by praying for themselves and those overseas while also trying to reach unsaved households around the world.

Based on its research, the ministry says it reaches more than 1 million households in the Arab world through its radio ministry. It aims to also reach millions of unsaved households in other regions, including Euro-Asia, Latin America, Asia Pacific and Sub-Saharan Africa, through its radio and healthcare services.

"It is our hope that hundreds of thousands of families across America will join us in this effort to pray for our households, and then pray for and support millions of families and households around the world with the 'good news' of Jesus Christ," Pederson stated.

The "Me and My Household" initiative is based on the verse Joshua 24:15, which states, "But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord."

In addition to praying, HCJB is challenging households in America and the world to give $1 to reach one household in the Arab world for one year.

Founded in 1931, HCJB Global is a ministry that uses media and healthcare to be the "voice and hands of Jesus" to the unreached. HCJB Global has ministries in more than 100 countries, with the Gospel aired in more than 120 languages and dialects.
