Ministry, Top N.Y. College Gospel Choirs Team Up for Easter Concert

NEW YORK – A fast-growing Christian performance ministry will be holding its debut concert at the world-renowned Apollo Theater this Saturday, and they have invited gospel choirs from five of New York's top colleges to back them up.

Jubilee Mission, an interdenominational ministry committed to spreading the Gospel through the performing arts, will be holding its Jubilee Worship Concert as part of an outreach towards local youth, and have brought together gospel ensembles from New York University, Fordham University, Columbia University, Pace University, and Nyack College.

Although based in New York, Jubilee Mission's international reach has collected original pieces of music composed from over 20 countries around the globe for their first large-scale event.

"God sowed the seed of hope to start this ministry in 2002, starting only with a small group," explained Christopher Chou, the North American regional representative of Jubilee Mission, to The Christian Post. "Numerous people have now been called to perform with two things in common: the arts and their love for Christ. I hope that our original worship songs will inspire deeper faith among attendants."

Partnering with one of the world's largest international Christian relief and development organizations, the praise performance will also fundraise for World Vision's child sponsorships as well as youth projects such as the 30-hour famine.

"The goal is to extend aid beyond the borders of our own city, to people and children throughout the world," said Chou.

According to the group, the concert will be more aimed toward college students to help them develop a deeper faith as Easter approaches.

"The worship is high energy and passionate," explained the ministry head. "As it is the night before Easter, the songs will meditate deeply on the life and love revealed through the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ."

Through the concert, Jubilee Mission began recruiting and training up to 40 new members as a way to raise up new Christian dancers and singers around the United States.

The ministry plans on recording a live demo of the concert, which will then be presented in Nashville at the Gospel Music Associations (GMA)'s Gospel Music Week. This annual weeklong GMA event is the largest collection of people involved in the Christian music industry, and it leads up to the Dove Awards, also known as the "Christian Grammys."

The Jubilee Worship Concert will be held at 7 p.m. on Apr. 7 at the Apollo Theater, birthplace of some of entertainment's biggest stars including James Brown, Michael Jackson, Ella Fitzgerald, and Lauryn Hill.

Chou concluded, "Through revealing God's grace, we hope to set in motion a revival in the hearts of New York City."

Tickets available at the Jubilee Mission website or at the Apollo Theater Box Office.
